Young Actors Guild
Requirements

Attendance
  • Spring and Fall classes are held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students should arrive 15 minutes prior to the time classes start and be picked-up promptly at 3:00 pm. Close attention should be paid to scheduled rehearsal times as Young Actors Guild reserves the right to call additional rehearsals or cancel scheduled rehearsals as needed.
  • Students are allotted no more than two unexcused absences. If a student has more than 3 absences from class for any reason, excused or not, the student will not be allowed to participate in the performance.
  • Students should bring snacks and /or lunch depending on the student's individual needs and the amount of time he/she will be in attendance. Lunch time is from 12:30 to 1:00pm.
Appearance
and
Attire

  • Students are required to wear appropriate attire to class and rehearsal so that the instructors can see the lines of the students’ bodies when they are dancing. Boys must wear fitting t-shirts and windpants, sweatpants, dance pants or boxer shorts. Girls must wear leotards and tights (boxer shorts are allowed). Ballet slippers or canvas sneakers must be worn by both boys and girls. Students should wear their dance clothes underneath their regular clothes because there may not be time to change. If students are not dressed appropriately, they will not be permitted to participate in dance that day. If the student tends to sweat a lot, they are encouraged to bring an extra change of t-shirt for acting and music class.
  • The following items are not permitted at any time: hats, jeans, skirts, overalls, pants with zippers, halter tops, belts, bracelets, long necklaces, watches, rings or long earrings.
  • Long hair should be pulled back, away from faces.

Behavior

  • Use proper language at all times.
  • Act in an orderly fashion and do not cause distractions or unsafe situations for yourself or others during class time or rehearsals. The following behaviors are not permitted: gum chewing; shouting and screaming unless these are required in a skit; running or chasing after others; climbing or sitting on the furniture improperly; hitting, slapping, punching, kicking or any other inappropriate touching of fellow students; eating during class time unless you have the permission of the instructor; and/or smoking and the consumption of alcohol.
  • Use the buddy system when you need to use the restroom or get a drink of water. Never travel in Academy Hall or the Playhouse alone, and always take the direct route.
  • Be responsible for your own materials and belongings. Bring a notebook, folder and pencil or pen to each class, as well as any music and scripts that have been handed out.
  • Show respect for all participants in the Young Actors Guild. Mean comments and destructive criticism are not permitted. Basically, students should "do unto others as they would have others do unto them."
  • Show all materials distributed in class to your parents, since some of the handouts are communications to your parents about the program.
