Our Philosophy
Young Actors Guild believes in children. We believe in childhood. In this fast-paced day and age, we believe that children need a safe place where they can be who they are today and experiment with their talents, interests and ideas.
Rather than throwing themselves into competition against their peers, we like to surround them with the support of their peers. We work very hard to guide the children in our program in this direction rather than only technically training them to stay within the program's technical limits.
We help them to realize their own limits in a natural child-paced environment, challenging them where challenge is needed, directing them where direction is needed, caring always.
Programs
Center Stage is Young Actors Guild's core music, acting and dance program. The students study music theory, modern dance and acting technique for ten Saturdays in each of the spring and fall semesters and for five intensive weeks during the Summer Session.

The Program Director places children in one of two groups - Act II, or III depending on their age, level of experience and/or skill level.

  • Music Theory
The Young Actors Guild feels a responsibility to include Music Theory in our music program. Music Theory is the study of fundamental concepts of tonal music including notation, terminology and harmony, sight singing and ear training. As recommended by the National Association for Teachers of Singing, the Young Actors Guild believes that students should not study one-on-one voice lessons until age 16. Our choral activities are both beneficial and appropriate for the children in our program.
  • Modern Dance & Movement
In the Young Actors Guild dance program, modern dance and basic ballet techniques are taught to provide a solid foundation for all dance types required in the productions. Our instructors teach warm-up exercises on the barre, improvisational movement, basic dance steps, and audition routines. The students improve stage posture and develop good physical stance.
  • Drama
General classes focus on building improvisation, pantomime, diction and speech. The intensity of the classes depends on age appropriateness.
